Matthias Grünewald
德国画家, (1480-1528)
马蒂亚斯·格吕内瓦尔德（1480—1528）擅长于祭坛画。当丢勒潜心研究意大利绘画时，格吕内瓦尔德却对意大利绘画视而不见。他是德国文艺复兴画家中最令人不可思议的一位。说他不可思议，是指他的作品在德国画风中属于一种特殊现象。死亡与痛苦、幻想与病态是他的绘画形象的基调。他喜欢采用强烈的对比色，追求暗色背景中的闪光，有点像中世纪彩色玻璃画。这种画法影响了后来的德国浪漫主义画派。

Coburg Panel,1500
格吕内瓦尔德用色绚丽奇幻，善于表现纯朴激动的感情，是一位植根于民间艺术土壤又充分吸收了新技法的大师。他的伊森海姆祭坛画被认为是德国文艺复兴美术中独放异彩的一大杰作。
Last Supper (Coburg Panel),1500
格吕内瓦尔德一生的作品，现存的只有10幅油画，大约35幅素描，而以他的几幅大型的祭坛画最具代表性。较著名的有《林丁加尔特祭坛画》作于1503年、《盖列尔祭坛画的两侧》约作于1509～1513年、《伊森海姆多面折叠祭坛画》约作于1512～1515年。
Saint Agnes of Rome (Coburg Panel),1500
格吕内瓦尔德的艺术师承不详，可能从莱茵河中游一带的地方画师习艺，但他也学习了文艺复兴的新技怯，并精通建筑与水利工程。约从1500年起工作于塞利根施塔特及阿沙芬堡，1509年起任美因玆大主教的宫廷画师。
Heller Altarpiece,1507-1509
德国宗教改革和农民战争期间，他因同情改革，于1526年被大主教解职，后迁居法兰克福、哈雷等地，传世之作不多，但现存代表作——伊森海姆祭坛画（15l0～1515）是多幅的宏伟巨构，包括耶稣诞生、受刑、复活以及圣安东尼故事等6幅图画，皆属精品。其他重要作品有《圣埃拉斯穆斯和圣莫里斯》（1520～1522）以及3幅比伊森海姆祭坛画中基督受刑图较小的同名图画（分藏于巴塞尔、华盛顿、卡尔斯鲁厄三地）。
