小汉斯·荷尔拜因(Hans Holbein the Younger 1497- 1545年)是16世纪德国最后一位著名的画家。小荷尔拜因比丢勒小26岁，出生于奥格斯堡，父亲汉斯·荷尔拜因也是一位画家。小荷尔拜因从小天资聪敏，很快吸收了北方和意大利艺术家的成就，成为一名画家。

小荷尔拜因成年后去了当时北方的文化中心巴塞尔，在那儿画了许多作品，还结识了著名的人文主义者伊拉斯莫，并为其作过一些肖像画。

正当他在通向一流大师的道路上奋进的时候，宗教改革的动荡使他的希望成为泡影。以后伊拉斯莫介绍他去了英国，在那儿他成为了英王亨利八世的宫廷画家，并在英国度过了他的大半生。小荷尔拜因以擅画肖像著称（因其父与他同名，故称他小荷尔拜因）。
