彼得·保罗·鲁本斯（Peter Paul Rubens）（1577年6月28日～1640年5月30日），教名伯多禄·保禄·鲁宾斯，十七世纪佛兰德斯画家，西班牙哈布斯堡王朝外交使节。鲁本斯是佛兰德斯画家，是巴洛克画派早期的代表人物。

彼得·保罗·鲁本斯出生于德国的茨根小城的一个律师家庭。鲁本斯最初师从于风景画家维尔哈希特（Tobias Verhaecht，1561-1631）和多才多艺的画家阿达姆·凡·诺尔特（Adam van Noort），在他们的门下学习了4年时间，打下了坚实的绘画基础，不久又成为从罗马归来的维尼乌斯（Venius）的弟子，使鲁本斯受益很大，这使年轻画家对意大利，特别是罗马充满美好的向往。在他21岁时成为安特卫普画家公会的会员。两年之后实现了去意大利留学的梦想。

1600年，鲁本斯来到了意大利的威尼斯，他以极为虔诚的态度研究学习提香的色彩艺术和丁托雷托具有生动韵律的构图及明暗法。后来相继访问罗马、佛罗伦萨和热那亚等地，精心研究临摹古代艺术精品和文艺复兴盛期大师们的画迹。同时，卡拉瓦乔的现实主义绘画强有力的艺术效果也吸引了他，而最感兴趣的是正在兴起的意大利巴洛克艺术。这种巴洛克式的艺术风格主宰着他几乎一生的创作活动。

鲁本斯一生的创作中，主要是宗教神话题材，他在基督教题材的创作中，不可避免要受到教会的制约，但在神话题材创作中，就可以自由发挥自己的艺术个性。鲁本斯从威尼斯大师们那里获得色彩造型的启迪，在自己的创作中，色彩艺术得到了尽善尽美的发挥，已经超过了他所尊重的威尼斯画派的成就。

鲁本斯一生过着王子般的生活，49岁时爱妻去逝，53岁时又与一位16岁的妙龄少女海伦·富尔曼结婚，仍然过着幸福生活。在他63岁时走完了自己艺术的一生，为人类艺术宝库贡献了三千余幅艺术珍品。

法国美术史家丹纳说：佛兰德斯只有一个鲁本斯，正如英国只有一个莎士比亚，其余的画家无论如何伟大，总缺少一部分天才。 鲁本斯的绘画对佛兰德斯以及整个西方绘 画的发展，具有重大意义，17世纪后期巴黎的法国皇家美术 学院就出现了一批鲁本斯主义者。18～19世纪法国画家华托、德拉克洛瓦、雷诺阿和英国画家雷诺兹、康斯特布尔等都在不同程度上受到过他的影响。
