弗朗西斯科·德·苏巴朗（francisco de Zurbarán 1598～1664年）一生都过着隐士一样的生活，为各地的修道院和教堂作画，作品多描写圣经和宗教题材。同时苏巴朗还是一位出色的静物画家。苏巴朗的主要作品有《圣布鲁诺的奇迹》、《圣合雷平》和《墓中的圣弗朗西斯科》。

弗朗西斯科·德·苏巴朗是西班牙画坛中不可或缺的一位代表画家，弗朗西斯科·德·苏巴朗擅长创作一些宗教色彩的作品，并因此而闻名于世。弗朗西斯科·德·苏巴朗的作品中很多都是描绘的修道士，修女以及一些殉道者的形象。这点和他本人的宗教信仰及当时的社会背景是分不开的。

弗朗西斯科·德·苏巴朗出生在西班牙的埃斯特雷马杜拉市，他的父母经营着一个小店，但是，尽管如此，家中也不算富裕。只能说是中等家庭。弗朗西斯科·德·苏巴朗从小就表现出了异于常人的对艺术的喜欢，经常一个人的时候，拿着木炭模仿其他画家的一些作品。

为此，他的父亲明白了儿子的兴趣爱好之后，决定将他送到塞维利亚去跟着专业的画家学习绘画的技巧。在学成之后，弗朗西斯科·德·苏巴朗在那里组建了自己的家庭，并有了自己的孩子。
